  1. Hrm. If there's a bad there, it's at least part mine-- I didn't realize that you were saying that it's silly to have ONLY an acoustic pickup. I suspect Darren's right about why it was chosen. Regarding Godin, though-- certainly the synth ability doesn't hurt. But it's not what put them on the map. Greg
  2. Clerks rules. Monkey-- you are given authority by your principal to distribute money to people? That's pretty cool. Greg
  3. At risk of sounding rude, you're wrong. It's one of the hallmarks of Godin guitars, especially in the early days of the acousticaster style guitars they were making. This has continued, and the 'acoustic pickup' is considered an integral part of many Godin guitars. If one company wasn't enough-- Paul Reed Smith also offers models with piezo pickups that are done hexaphonically and in some sort of scientifically balanced way that I have no clue how to describe. In other words, they spent time and energy engineering a solidbody that will sound a lot like an acoustic, and which allows the option to blend the two signals. It's not uncommon, really... there are lots of commercially available 'piezo-loaded' electric guitar bridges available. I'm still surprised that you think it's an odd idea considering how common it is. Greg
  4. I'm quite curious, too, as these look decent quality. Regarding the veneer-- how do they veneer a compound curve, or does the photo only make it LOOK like a compound curve when in fact it's not? Greg
  5. Surely you jest? Especially considering your forum name? <chuckle> Godin pretty much built their name on guitars that have 'acoustic' pickups. Greg
  6. Why not make the front "3-dimensional" as well? Even if this guitar DID play ****-hot and sound great, I'll still be surprised to see him get the $3,500 asking price. If he does, I have to consider switching careers. Greg
  7. Another good point. If you just want to dickaround, use your existing soundcard and its crappy mic pre and you'll still have fun. I did! All you need is a 1/4" to 1/8" stereo adapter, like the kind you use for headphones. $5 and you're sorted. Yes, a guitar sends a mono signal, but it WILL send it through a stereo plug no problem. If you find one, you could even go 1/4" mono to 1/8" stereo, but I've personally never seen one. Greg
  8. I think the ideal guitar is the DC LP Junior with P-90s. OK, zero versatility, but what a guitar!
  9. Have to agree with Dugz, though the MobilePre is a decent "in-between" solution for you if you don't need all the Firewire Solo's features. A question, Dugz or other GuitarPort owners-- do you know if I can use it to record directly in my sequencer (ie. select it as a device and record), or do I have to record with proprietary software and then import the file into my sequencer? Greg
  10. Unless you have a wide-screen monitor, you don't have the option of 1280 X 800; however, regardless, that resolution would be fine. You could theoretically even go 800 X 600, but it WOULD be uncomfortably cramped. Anything 1024 X 768 or higher is fine. Greg
  11. My avatar is NOT giving the finger!!! <grin> Greg
  12. I think the LEDs will ultimately wear thin on you and you'll wish you hadn't bothered spending so much time on them. If you want something glowy, just ONE LED as an "on/off" visual cue is more than enough, and not necessary even then. Greg
  13. Ditto. Nothing new to add to that, just confirming. My card is also a dual-head Matrox with 32MB. The venerable G550, a DAW staple. Greg
  14. There are tonnes of conversion programs out there. I prefer foobar2000, but mileage may vary. Just use the other program to do it; no need to convert from within Kristal itself. Greg
  15. Pretty neat. Cheers for sharing.
  16. You can use your existing tone knob as a coil-splitter, but you just lose the "9-10" range of the tone knob. Anywhere from 8.9 and below, it's a tone knob and you're in humbucker mode. Once you hit "9", the coil is split, but there's no real tone control for it, it's at 'full' by default. Maybe I should post a separate thread. ;-) This is how I do the coil splitting on my mini-59 installed on my guitar! Works pretty good, especially if you're like me and you don't really touch your tone knobs anyhow. Greg
  17. Audacity is great. Cubase is good, too, but a bit traditional for me. I prefer Tracktion (v2 soon out!). For free, I agree that Kristal's the one to get! Another good and free one that has VST plug-in capability PLUS MIDI, PLUS a modular environment is: Delta SP! Not open source, but v1.62 is free from now until forever, and available concurrently (ie. it'll continue to be available) with any commercial releases he comes up with (v1.63+). Greg
  18. Holy ****, that's amazing. I can't wait until fullserve comes up again or you host elsewhere. Photobucket is pretty good for hosting photos if you're looking for something. Amazing... I'll be that good in my dreams some day, but in real life? Not likely! Greg
  19. Why do you need to drive another speaker? Since the MG series is digital, your distortion is not dependent on level. You can just turn down the volume. Greg
  20. The biggest mistake I made was wanting to do a carved top guitar. I should have made a Steiberger clone with EMGs instead. <grin> Greg
  21. Most people claim that pickup covers WILL change the sound a little. Also, if you go aftermarket, you'll probably (but not definitely) have to re-pot them to help quell harmonic squeal. But... the tone thing is questionable and certainly not enough of an issue when compared to the greater question of-- does your guitar seem to be screaming for metal pickup covers? If it is, then you have no choice my friend! There's no particular brand that will alter your sound any more or less. Greg
  22. I haven't read the article yet, but it seems to me that Eddie has become a bit of a pratt. Greg
  23. I had to laugh at the name of the thread, though I tell my students every day not to use the word "Gay" that way, as it doesn't really make sense. Considering Freddie Mercury was gay, the irony was enough to make me chuckle, though. Queen is one of the best bands ever, and certainly in the top 5 Classic Rock bands of all time. They rock! Greg
  24. Thanks, will do. I have to admit, any disc attachment on my flex shaft makes me ultra-paranoid of losing a finger. I had to cut some metal not too long ago, and at 10,000 rpm, that little thing was looking like a little wheel of death. Greg
