hyunsu Posted July 21, 2004 Report Share Posted July 21, 2004 hi.. in my local area mahogany or alder wood is rare.. so i select jelutong wood, it is easy & cheap wood. and soft, this pic is maple top (20~25mm thick) and back is jelutong.. jelutong is cheap.. but this combination is sweet sound than only maple body.. i expect maple & jelutong will great sound .. maple & soft wood make good sound.. what are you thick? Long time no hear from you, by the way love your work... great maple top... how soft is that wood, softer than cedar? I know that people here have used that for body so I guess it will be good, were in Korea are you, 2 of my friends are going to Camp Casey, Tongduchon, Korea and the other to Youngsan, is it near you? Scott Rosenberger Posted July 21, 2004 Report Share Posted July 21, 2004 I consider Alder, Mahogany and Basswood as "Soft Woods" from a workable standpoint as oposed to "Hard" woods like Maple, Ash, Bubinga etc. when I use a Hard wood top (Maple) I always balance it out with a softer back. 82DeanZ Posted July 22, 2004 Report Share Posted July 22, 2004 Hyunsu, I had a feeling you were in Korea. I just got back recently from a 10 day trip to Korea as part of my Tae Kwon Do training. We spent 5 days in Incheon, 1 day in Seoul and the rest of the time on Cheju Island. On one of the days we went up to the DMZ (demilitarized zone). Very scary. In Seoul we got to train at the KuKkiwon, or World Tae Kwon Do headquarters and train with 2 members of this year's olympic team. Man they were fast! We were probably very near your office! I loved the food and I loved the people. It was very hot and very humid, however. How do you keep all that nicely figured wood dry? Best Regards, Mike.
