Guitar1Jesse
Hi, check out this link and tell me if this will work for all my body cavity routing (pickups, neck, bridge, etc). dremel It's the first router guide on the page. I already have the dremel tool. Thanks!
Dr. Jabsco
Yeah, that will work. But it will take some time. It will also smell pritty bad.
guitar_ed
Hi Jesse, Sorry to do this to you, but no, a Dremel tool will not be adequate for all of your routing needs. 1) The Dremel does not have enough routing depth. 2) The bit heads tend to wander, because the Dremel is not that sturdy. 3) The Dremel is a slow routing tool. 4) Odds are you will burn out the motor long before you get finished. I have a Dremel and it is great for certain things, light duty routing for instance. Binding channels, stuff like that. More than that, I wouldn't try it. Dr. Jabsco
if you dont want to spend money on a real router, you can do the drill and chisel method. (or rent a router)
Guitar1Jesse
Drill and chisel...if you're serious please explain (sorry I don't know much about this stuff yet) any other methods besides renting a router?
Guitarfrenzy
Drill and chisel...if you're serious please explain (sorry I don't know much about this stuff yet) any other methods besides renting a router? Buying or borrowing a router is even better. I think that if you are trying to avoid buying a router because you don't think you'll use it much, your totally wrong, it's the single most important power tool in guitar building. I really recommend you buying one even if it's a cheap Chicago brand one, until you can afford better. Please don't use the dremel, it doesn't have the power to do such a job as routing out body cavities.
jefm
The drill and chisel method is serious.... It's ugly and a lot more work than it's worth You use a drill to do most of the wood then a chisel to finish it off
