bigdguitars
Here are a couple of things that I am working on. A LP style guitar that got messed up royally, I finally got access to a 15' planer to take off a good section of the top. Now I can add a neck... This guitar started as a setneck, but the mahogany warped, then my fretboard cracked, so.... it was a project I was working on a couple of years ago that I left around cause the quilt is great... What do you think about the color? The guitar backside is paint gold, the LP gold from guitar reranch. Custom guitar I am building for a guy with the last name Z. Hollowed out body, from PANGA PANGA a rare hardwood. Machines great, wonder what this will sound like. The custom Z inlays are crappy I used a substance called inlace which dyed the fretboard in some bad spots...
wylde1919
I like the color on the paul, looks like a dime slime finish like on dimebag's guitars!
litchfield
The neck pocket on the Z looks shallow.
bigdguitars
its a new tenon that I am playing with, there is supposed to be an insert that you don't see from the pic. It should work...
daveq
I'm surprised nobody has given you a hard time about the foot in the pic. Wes took a lot of crap for his. That looks like some interesting wood - I like it.

Jehle
I'm surprised nobody has given you a hard time about the foot in the pic. Wes took a lot of crap for his. Nice foot!
MKGBass
Is the guitar fully surfaced? If so....what are these?
daveq
That one on the right looks like a real bummer. What's this about panga panga?
bigdguitars
yea panga panga was fully surfaced. A little dust, there was a knot in the wood that I just left. Panga panga is a rare wood from Brazil, machines well and sounds pretty good for this body will post pics soon.
daveq
Just for the sake of sharing some info, here's some info on panga panga: Panga Panga (and Wenge) I looked around the web and each said pretty much the same thing - it's very similar to wenge and grows in Africa (tropical Africa). MKGBass
i hope its not TOO similar to wenge, if they were close relatives, that body would weigh about 15 lbs!
GregP
The neck pocket looks crooked. I'm sure it's not, as you've done this sort of thing before , but it sure looks off from that angle. I like the green for the LP project. It's not... 'beautiful'... but it's interesting.
bigdguitars
Well I finished the Panga panga guitar. Its been hollowed out, so that it rings and rings. All maple neck. Humbucker pickups with custom made rings. and yes the neck is off a bit. my templated slipped as I was routing, so I just finished it anyway, what would some of you had done? I finished it, its a free guitar for my cousin who currently plays but does not have a guitar so he can't complain... Actually this is one of my first guitars to use almost all templates, the building went really smooth and to be honest, the neck is very nicely done if I must say so myself. even right after setting it up the action is super low and plays great... Also for those of you who want to hear what it sounds like, here is my bad playing... Guitar tone Coils taps with a f hole full guitar
Curtis P
in my opinon, the F hole should have been on the other side, and it should have been a Z like hole Curtis
bigdguitars
I was going to do the z hole but I could not get it to look right...
Curtis P
I would have done it on the other side though, the hole shows your wiring, and IMO it looks, tacky Curtis
daveq
If there were some way to hide the wiring, that would really improve the looks of the instrument. Can you access it from the back and slide something between the hole and the wiring?
Maiden69
^^^^ same thing, the wiring there detracts from the guitar appearance.
bigdguitars
I can push the wires out of the way, This was the first setup, so I can adjust them. Thanks for the input Dave, the back of the guitar is solid, so I can only access from the from. its nice not to have to rout out a control cavity. daveq
I'm not trying to be a pain here - just curious - how did you manage to get those switches, pots, ... in there without a control cavity routed from the back?
bigdguitars
The F hole is just wide enough to pass the pots through. If I did the Z I had no way of getting the pots through. I am very good at wiring, hence the business I run on the side, and have fixed countless basses and guitar that are wired like this. Just take some fishing wire tape it to the end of the pot, and screw it on, its actually pretty easy to do...
daveq
OK, I hope you don't mind the questions - The f-hole has a hollowed out portion under it then? I can't tell from the pics but I didn't think you glued a top on that guitar so what did you use to hollow out the wood under the f-hole? spirit
Same as the others. Wiring detracts from overall looks
