KramerKrazy
Why is oak not good for bodies? I can get some good size scraps for free.
Drak
It's not 'bad', it's just not 'great'. Oak has HUGE pores to fill, so that's an issue, and it's pretty heavy. That's about it really. The large pores on it are it's biggest downfall I think as far as guitar-building is concerned. Brian May's guitar was Oak. He and his dad made from scratch. That's one Oak guitar that made a lot of hits and money.
soapbarstrat
I heard just the center-block in Brian's guitar was oak. I might use oak I have , if I ever build some little steinberger type guitar. I used it to make my fretting "body block" and it seems to sound pretty good. I figure with it being so heavy, it's quite good for a small body. That fellow from Korea (can't remember his name, starts with H) made a neck out of oak that looked better than most maple necks I've seen
Guest Litchfield Custom Gutars
I have used oak. Think of it as maple with pores bigger than mahogany. This is the third or fourth thread on this. The one I started
