Curtis P
The spot where the strings go through, its a silvers box like thing, its too long, or tall for my guitar body, I cant take it back, and since I gotta good deal on it, I wanna use it since I have had good luck with the one on my Washburn.... Could I make a rectangular ring that the tremelo will sit on so its like a floating bridge? or will that just coninually knock it outta tune? Thanks Curtis P.S. I got some GOTOH locking tuners, so maybe it will help ?? Curtis

Curtis P
yes, it is 1 1/2 inch thick, the last peice of black cherry i have is 2 inch x 4 inch and 1 3/4 inch will this ring work?
tsl602000
hmmm... that's too thin for a standard vintage trem. If you use the ring, your saddles will be raised too..... If they're too high you won't be able to achieve a low action without angling the neck
Curtis P
it only needs to go just over 1/4 inch Curtis
tsl602000
that's alot...... probably too much Did you route the trem cavity already?

bowser
would it work to cut off a slice of the trem block? i know some people have done that with their floyd's, but i don't know if it works with a standard trem.
jbkim
I think it'd be harder since the strings go through that block. You'd have to drill those holes out in addition to shortening the block.
jbkim
Have you cut the body yet? Snork/Nordic had a similar problem... let me find the link: http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.ph...?showtopic=4230
VanKirk
Am I understanding correctly that your new trem is too tall by a 1/4"? I have a vintage 6 hole trem in my MIM Fender Strat. It's about 1/4" too short for my 1 5/8" body. If you want we can make a trade if yours is gold and is a 6-hole as well. Mine is in good condition. We can trade pics of the trems. Mine has small intonation screw marks under the saddles from adjustments but they aren't noticable. I can send high definition pics.
Guest Litchfield Custom Gutars
Good call. If that doesnt pan out, try seeing if there are any shops that will trade you or see if you can buy a shorter block.
Curtis P
I am going to call my uncle today and just trade in and get a hardtail one, VanKirk, mine is black and 6 string, Hardtails are cheaper right? Thanks Curtis
