espnut2
Hi all. Does anyone have any tips on dying just the face of a maple headstock without dying the sides? I have a beautiful birdseye strat neck that I want to dye to match the dye on my guitar. Can I just mask as you would with painting? Any help is appreciated. Scott Rosenberger
Masking will work if you don't use a really wet stain pad. You can also use wax on the sides to keep the dye out. or seal the sides with sealer first

Morben Guitars
I've done this with many strat type necks. It's really quite easy. Tape off the edges first. I've come to prefer "pinstriping" tape obtained at a auto parts store. It leaves a VERY clean edge. After taping it off, just apply the dye. Use light coats to avoid runs into the tape. Once dry, remove the tape. Use a razor to clean up the edges if necessary. Not just spray with a finish and you're done! Good Luck!

Guitarfrenzy
If you do accidently get dye on something you don't want it on, you can use bleach to get it out. Good luck..
