Popular Post Andyjr1515
And so, although I am going to fine-tune the neck profile and also need to take the neck pickup back to Matt to switch the internal wiring, externally, this is done. So - with apologies for the self-indulgence - here it is: As always, thanks for looking and the huge encouragement along the way

curtisa
Did you hear the one about the wooden guitar? Wooden play... Bravo, Andy. You have to be happy with the way that turned out. I trust you'll be GOTM-ing this one?
komodo
That whole top is glowing! I'll say it again, I just want to pick it up and play it. What more could a guitar wish for? 1
Andyjr1515
Thanks, folks. You are all very kind Well, Matt has sorted (we think) the errant neck pickup and I have reshaped the neck to what feels right to me and Matt has tried it and is very happy with it. So tomorrow is refit the pickup and the start of the neck refinish (pretty quick job). Should be able to pass it over to him mid week
Bizman62
I'm out of superlatives! There's so many details involved, things I might or even should have thought of in my builds, things I'd like to be able to do and things I'd like to remember to do in my future builds... Yew have let the wood speak for itself which is what Iike very much.
Popular Post Andyjr1515
The last couple of days have been about the final knockings - final shaping and refinishing of the neck, set-up and strap buttons I had built a couple of tweaks to help the balance but the main one - fitting Axesrus' (a decent UK supplier) wonderful lightweight aluminium tuners - was dashed because of (presumably Covid-related) non-availability. Instead, I have fitted some really, really nice open gear Hipshots - but, honestly, they are quite a bit heavier than the Axesrus ones. But when Matt tried it out. I watched how he played and we discussed that yes - he does want to get to that 24th fret..and with his thumb wrapped round and so the back button wanted to be in the 'traditional' place if at all possible. But what I do (with all of my builds) is first fit the back button, then pop a slippy strap on it, over my shoulder and, holding the strap in various positions while supporting the guitar, gauge where the balance was going to be. And it looked like we could get there. So on went the back button (and nowhere near the 'goldilocks' zone of 12th -13th fret I always recommend!): ...and then popped a slippy strap on and hands off... So, whatever position Matt likes to play, it should be absolutely fine Final bit of polishing up tomorrow and it's ready to go to Matt. So one last glance before it goes into the gig bag: Yup - that'll do And as always, many thanks for the kind words and great encouragement along the way - always very much appreciated
curtisa
Very well done, Andy. Matt should be rightly chuffed to receive such a fine looking instrument. Will Titanic Brewery do home deliveries? Might be time for a pint.
Gogzs
That's a very nice process of figuring where the strap button go. Can't wait to hear it play.

Prostheta
This very much reminds of of The Wookiee! I love that sublime appearance in the top....flashy but elegant, and it fundamentally reminds you that this is wood. Too many guitars look like rubber-stamped IKEA furnishings these days for all manner of reasons, good and bad. This is wood showing its wild nature, with your work bringing that beauty out into realisation. Absolutely what one should strive to achieve. Working wood to the surface of the finished piece is the hardest transition, as one cannot hide poor workmanship or laziness. Everything must be 100% and it is. Very glad that you underlined just how toxic Yew is, and that you took care in working with it. Generally it's the sort of wood one would split and plane than generate dust with. It's important that people know that it can be deadly to work with (cardiac issues) but generally a problem that is easy to mitigate with basic precautions. If in doubt, don't use it.

Andyjr1515
Thanks, folks. Much appreciated I'm hoping the one I voted for and personally would have wanted to take home (actually, I would have loved to take ALL of them home!) is re-submitted. It has some very nice features and all executed very nicely indeed Actually, there are a few that should be resubmitted...
