"I posted my problem on the Mach3 yahoo group and got a solution from someone named Brian, who I think is associated with ArtSoft and Mach3. He told me to try adding 5us to the pulse width (bottom right corner of the motor tuning dialog box). Looks like that solved my problem" might give this a shot. If you accidentally positioned your Gcode within the boundaries of your machine such that the workpiece overhung the negative X limit I would've thought Mach3 would give you an error on startup saying that the Gcode was larger than the maximum travel of the machine (or something to that effect) and prevent you from running the program. Might be more of a question for @MiKro - is it possible to accidentally set up Mach3 such that it will ignore the soft limits of the machine, and instead of halting the program it runs it anyway? It is worth exploring though: All movement on the Y axis in your Gcode is in the positive direction (the cutter only goes 'more north' or 'less north'). Z axis only goes negative towards the floor, with the exception of a couple of movements where it is +0.2" above the work piece while repositioning (can you confirm that the Z axis actually does rise upwards above zero when it does these repositioning moves, or does it also get clipped at Z=0?). X axis is the only one programmed to spend equal time moving positive or negative of zero. I'm thinking there may be something funny going on with the zeroing of your workpiece and machine before starting the program, and the lack of defined coordinate offsets in the Gcode header (see point 1 in my earlier post). If you look at my second diagram of your movement, the X axis will actually go east and west. The problem you appear to be having is that it won't go west far enough; the axis goes west as far as 0 and doesn't go any further. If it were something like step loss due to incorrectly set pulse widths and/or timing you'd expect to see the axis drift by random amounts in random directions when running any Gcode, not just this one neck pocket routine. 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

What happens if you take the first few lines of your Gcode: And insert an extra line N115:  well... and the pickup cavity just below that... extends further to the west than the neck cavity?? so it def isn't that since I ran that minutes before this! and cut the body shape! and I ran the pickup after as well to ensure something wasn't all of the sudden physically stopping it! plus, I've copied my config file into mach3 new just to rule that out (soft limits and the like are all saved there). z was going above the piece as it seems to cut 'like normal' with the exception of location. the thing with coordinates... if I check them after... my y and z are right on... but my x has moved. if it was changing the x... youd think it would start out east of ctr... but it doesn't. I will try the N115: - you just want me to put it as the first line? If that works and the neck pocket one doesn't and nothing else is changing between running either, it has to be something different in the Gcodes between the two. It's just the pickup and neck pocket components merged into a single Gcode, with the pickup cavity running first. Run it in the air, just in case there's something I've overlooked when I've joined them together, and your machine tries doing something unexpected (the sim in Camotics looks OK though). mistermikev Posted November 26, 2020 Author Report Share Posted November 26, 2020 can't complete it because too many passes (takes forever ran it 3 times) it keeps getting too close to my workpiece (I'm not ready to move that just yet) and I've maxed out my z axis (if I go any higher I'll hit my limit). for what it's worth the pickup part ran fine. If I knew what to remove or how to change all passes to be sm height... Does it feel like the axis is binding if you try turning the motor shaft by hand with the power off? With the power on and the cutter near where the problem occurs, can you jog the machine east/west in Mach3 with no trouble? Does the plot/preview in Mach3 look like the expected shape of the neck pocket, or is it squished up/lopped off on the west side? When you run the neck pocket routine and it fails to travel west past the centreline, does the X axis pause at the centreline as if the remainder of the missing move is still being 'played' in the background or does it transition immediately into the next north/south move with no delay? When the west motion is limited is it at the exact same X value every time, or is there some variation in the point at which it stops? Try running the attached and see what it does (with the Z axis unplugged). Rename file extension as before. It's the same neck pocket routine, but with the origin set to the bottom centre of the neck pocket rather than the middle of the guitar body. Assuming you don't change your work origin it should trace out the neck pocket somewhere near the middle of the body. I read some about settings this morning and changed a bunch of stuff... including upping the pulse to 5... and it made the machine fast as all get out... but ran the original neck program and still does the sm thing.  will go check for stiffness and run the prog - thanks again for sticking it out here with me! I fell like if I could at least zero in on the problem being w the controller...
