killemall8
Might as well start a new thread. While trying to find a full time job i am still building as well as my part time job. Here are a few of my current builds. ziricote SS. I always forget how much ziricote smells like soap when you sand it. 9 Piece flame maple neck with black veneer The rest is standard spec. It is past what pictures i have, right now it is ready for finish sanding. The other in progress build is this redwood burl SS. Maple, mahogany and walnut neck. I am going to attempt a darker red burst around the edges. And last is this custom order. It will be a traditional V, dyed green. Some good grain on this ash. psikoT
Those real tops look way cooler than the veneers, specially the ziricote one. I whish I could get a piece of that wood to make something, I think is stunning.
KnightroExpress
Gorgeous as always! I think the ziricote guitar might be my favorite of yours. That pinstriping/floating scarf effect is just fantastic.

So much more expensive and so much harder to work with because they warp so much when i get them. and the ziricote gums up the drum sander instantly. Huge pain. ScottR
I'm glad to see you are still turning out guitars K! I think ziricote is one of the most amazing woods to look at. It feels great too. SR
killemall8
Thanks scott. Been busy with a lot of different builds and getting finishing touches on a few. That always seems to take longer than the actual woodworking. Here are some pics of the progress on a few.

ScottR
Whoa, I didn't see that reddish color coming on the burl. Nice. And yes, that is a fine piece of ash. SR
killemall8
Scott, the red was a last second decision. For some reason once i upload the pictures they lose their quality? The original pictures on my computer have way more depth to the figure than that. I got the first coats of clear on the ziricote tonight. I also tested something i have wanted to try for years, and that is veneering a pickup to match the body. I tried it and in 10 minutes it worked exactly like i hoped.
Original
Nice, The red on the burl is stunning, and the neck lamination is the knockout punch. Beautiful Work!
ScottR
The veneered pups are cool. I'm looking forward to seeing those mounted. SR

killemall8
Got some more work done on the V today. Thanks to Prostheta, I was able to get the headstock shape the customer wanted to the exact size and shape. I also am starting a burl maple 7 string SS. And here is a pic of me with the rhoads for fun.

KnightroExpress
Man, that is intense. Anyone else see a sorta demonic face just under the bridge area? It's in line with the widest point of the body.

I see that one and one after another stacked up on top of it. And a lion. What kind of burl is that K? And what clear are you using on the ziricote? I thought i had it this time. I was convinced! But even after superglue filler, UV cure sealer and 2k clear, it still shrunk back into the grain within 2 hours after buffing. Next round is getting sent out for clear instead. The burl is plain old maple burl.
ScottR
Just level it and shoot it again. That maple looks a lot like the madrone burl I used last year. SR
killemall8
That was already the second time i re-shot. It does look a lot like madrone. I bought a whole bunch of it recently. I couldnt pass up burl of that quality!
killemall8
Well, back to the default. Had to sand it all off and oil it. I didnt want to do that, because i know ziricote loses all its color and grain lines when oiled. I only put one coat to try to prevent that, but it still got really dark.
