killemall8
I thought for sure that V would get some love. Question, Anybody know if tru oil will work on top of danish oil? the V still looks kinda splotchy because of the type of grain redwood has. It's a beauty of a top for sure... almost looks like a nebula. I bet you can get lost for awhile staring at it in person

Question, Anybody know if tru oil will work on top of danish oil? the V still looks kinda splotchy because of the type of grain redwood has. before someone who actually knows the answer replies let me just say that I'm the process of doing exactly that. I managed to get hold of some Tru Oil finally and I'm now doing two necks with it. After I saw how the first one is coming out I decided to also put it on the top of my nylon string build. Looking good so far.
RestorationAD
Tru-oil should be ok over Danish oil. I would let the Danish oil cure for at least 3-5 days before trying it.However I would test it because it would be easy to make a gummy mess by putting it on too heavy. Mr Natural
that V is sweet man. How thick is the veneer you use? I would be scared to death of sanding thru it- it appears really thin. I do go kind of nutso when I sand- I start with 80 and go thru 5 grades to 220- and I would probably go right thru that.
killemall8
Thanks. It is 1/42" thick. There is no need to start that heavy on veneer. It is already pretty smooth. I start at 150 and go 220, 320 and 400.
Robbinst
Wow Im in love with the neck layout on the superstrat style build. The wood palette you chose is beautiful. The stripe is padauk correct? Will you be including more on the body? I feel like even a little accent of it somehow would really set this thing off. Nice work! Prostheta
1/42"? Sounds like a weird measurement - not 1/32"?
killemall8
Thanks man. Yes, the center stripe is paduak. It is such a great wood to use for extreme contrasts. I hadn't really planned on putting any more into the body. The headtsock is now covered with a matching piece of the body wood. Pros, All the veneer i have bought, from numerous sellers, has always been listed as "1/42" thick. I never really questioned it.
killemall8
And speaking of veneer, I picked up a lot of 4 sheets of massively figured bubinga. They were wide and long enough to where i know i could get at least 2 out of each sheet. but i actually found a way to get 3 different body shapes cut out of just 1 sheet. So 3 bookmatched bodies and still enough for headstocks out of just 2 sheets of bubinga. Should be sweet! Pics tomorrow when the explorer is out of the clamps. westhemann
Awesome. If you ever do a solid guitar body of bubinga you will love it.Hard to work but great end product
killemall8
I have always wanted to. I love bubinga so much. I would love to do a super strat with a thick figured bubinga top, with super deep carve. Or a LP in the same way. It is just hard to find for a decent price in real thicknesses. killemall8
Man, warmoth has almost doubled the price of fretwire in just a few months! Last time i ordered it in the summer it was around 6 or 7 bucks per neck length. Now, 13 bucks! That really sucks. I always thought that was the best deal.
