demonx
maybe we can have a "Bich Off" Only if they are Carriburst! Sorry...waaay inside joke Yeah - I don't get it... I'm guessing it's probably something to do with Steven Kings Carri ? A Bich build off is a cool idea now I think about it, not so much a me Vs RAD thing, but one thread, two guitars and two complete different build methods and approaches towards the same guitar. Would be real interesting! Sounds really cool to me but I'm broke as right now and the Bich I'd want to build I don't have the stuff here to build and it'd be quite a while till I could afford those materials and hardware. Besides I've got 4 guitars on the go at the moment I need to finish and plans for another couple I need to get done. I know RAD is way behind on his builds too. westhemann
Yeah - I don't get it... I'm guessing it's probably something to do with Steven Kings Carri ? One of the first competition ideas on this site was a "carriburst" build off(it is a burst n quilted maple meant to look like ocean water in the carribean)..many people joined,it was talked about for months, and not one single guitar was ever finished
demonx
This should be sufficient for you to check the realism of your template as I made this template from the real thing.
nowa90
14.5 really isn't that big! I made my first tele at about 14 1/4 or even more, hahah
demonx
It's a lot bigger than the superstrats I'm used to making which are 12" wide and I'm guessing RAD's are a similar size.

Dude. You ARE THE MAN!!!! Thank you. That is awesome. So I have to scale my template by 1". Mine is 15.5" So I am off a little bit. I thought it looked big... This is perfect now I am going to make one bad bich. The Padauk blank I made for it was huge (I used a flamed maple Acoustic back for the top) . I probably could have peeled off another neck runner had I known I was over by an 1". Oh well. I still have some work to do putting a neck together but I have a pile of birdseye maple on the way... so either that or a Padauk neck. Not sure yet. The S9 is only about 12.5" wide x 18" long so this is still huge comparatively speaking. However still smaller than a Destroyer.

You know how it is I build one replica a year for myself. This year the Bich is it... I am using it to test some stuff on the CNC as well since it is not for a customer. Since it is a test build it will get all the rough work done early but finishing might have to wait until Oct or so. John and I had talked about a BC Rich build off last year. I am really behind because the CNC is slowing me down BUT I really like the idea of ONE thread for all the Bich builds... and not really a VS thing but a look at how all the bichs got built thread. We could open it up to include all BCs if you want. I am all for it. Start the thread and I will update as I get progress... it could be a while before I finish anyway. demonx
Glad I could help. I should mention that template I have is the kahler cut USA Bich shape, not an import and not the USA fixed bridge shape. Yes, there are several bich's! It's the financial thing stopping me from building it. I'm not getting much paid work at the moment so I'm having to live frugal. Give it a couple of months and I'll be in. demonx
Well - it seems RAD's thread has been derailed slightly, so, to derail it even more: Here is some Bich porn!!! A whole thread of Beautiful Bich's http://www.bcrichplayers.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=17431

demonx
Wow. That dude is silly looking... The guitars are awesome. Aren't most rock stars? Besides, the fact that all five pages of those bich's are his means he can look however he wants!
eddiewarlock
Warlocks are at their widest point close to 16"...but they are not big guitars actually...
demonx
Warlocks are at their widest point close to 16"...but they are not big guitars actually... I just measured a 80's USA NT warlock and the widest point was just about 14.25" I can imagine some of the cheap arse import ones being as big as you say but I don't own any to measure. westhemann
Import warlock 14.25" at the widest point.I have one of those cheap speedloader models, but if you measure it point to point(not square) it appears wider I have wanted to build a neck through warlock for a long time, but I need to build a radiusing jig because I want it to be radiused front and back like an Ibanez S.I had a KK model Warlock for a while and it was okay, but the huge pointy upper bout was awkward to me.I think radiusing would solve that.I also don't like the neck shape BC Rich uses

eddiewarlock
Continuing with the Bc Rich off topic. I checked mine, they are not 16" wide. They are indeed 14.25" wide How do you build a radiusing jig for the body? i'd like to build a mayones regius...

curtisa
Question: when building up a neck blank like that with an accent layer in the scarf, what is the best way of building up the scarf? Do you glue the intermediate layer to one of the cut faces first, let it dry and glue up the scarf proper? Or glue the whole lot in one hit?
