Our Souls inc.
This is "Zulu" . If you don't know the story , here goes: I bought a carving at a flea market, and it turned out to be African Mahogany. I wanted to keep the carving intact as a 'tip of the hat' to the original artist. This is the result...... Specs: A.M. 1-piece-body Padouk neck w/ recycled fretboard. I followed the tutorial on the main page and saved this FB/frets from the dumpster. The neck they were on was broken badly. all gold hardware that I actually made money to get, as opposed to paying for them. Side routed control cavities . Teak oil finish w/ slight darkening of various places. Total investment , including strings and strap-locks : under $100 . Pics: more pics in the build thread : http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.php?showtopic=43011 * Props to Chops1983 for a nudge in the GOTM direction. pauliemc
FREAKY GREEN SATRIANI. Based on the JS model from Ibanez, But with a little Les paul thrown in for good measure. Body : 2 piece hard ash. Neck : Glued in - Multi laminate Mahogany & Rock Maple with scarf joint & volute. Rosewood fret board. No inlays, side dots only. Bridge : Tune-o-matic. No tail piece, strings anchored thru body with ferrules. Chrome. Tuners : Wilkenson. Chrome. Electrics : 2 Humbuckers, 01 vol, 01 tone, 3 way toggle switch. Strat styled jack plate on rear panel. Fully shielded. Finish : Back of body, neck & head stock finished in black poly. the poly on the body was allowed to sink into the wood grain to get a lightly textured finish, This is to compliment the rippled finish on the front. This was then polished & buffed to a mirror shine. The front is fabric. Applied to the body so that the rippled texture of the material is maintained. overlayed with poly & buffed to a high gloss. avengers63
This seems to be the month for the oddities, so here goes nothing.... MIRRORED ICEMAN build thread BODY Ibanez Iceman shape - 1 7/8" total thickness 1" basswood base, 3/4" maple cap 1/8" acrylic mirror top r/w/r/w/r binding back painted white matte water-based polyurethane finish NECK ebonized walnut back-bolt bloodwood fretboard mirrored sharkfin inlays 22-fret, 25" scale bound mirrored cap on headstock oil rubbed into the neck & fretboard to bring out the color HARDWARE/ELECTRONICS all chrome hardware Planet Waves tuners GOTOH hardtail bridge, string through the body RAD blade Strat set 5-position switch 1v, 1t 2 mini toggles: phase for middle pup & jumper for bridge pup aluminum nut MODIFICATIONS I never liked the pointy dingus on the butt end of it, so it's gone. DISCLAIMER When I originally thought of putting a mirrored top on an Iceman, it was a 100% original idea. It wasn't until I talked with Resto about it that he poited out about Paul Stanley playing one. I face-palmed, but it is what it is. These are easily the best singles I've ever had. These things are fierce; they absolutely growl at you. They were wound to be as hot as a P-90, but still retain all the character of a regular s/c. In some ways, they're better than P-90s. They have so much twang that they almost quack. The tone actually shifts slightly from string to string. It progresses from warm on the low E to middy to a lot of bite on the high E. Then factor in the jumper switch on the bridge pup and the phase reversal on the middle and this guitar has a LOT of character. I believe I have also perfected the back-bolt construction on this one. It's only the second attempt, so I feel I'm ahead of the curve on that one. The main limitation for it is that the body HAS to be a minimum of 1.75" or you're going to blow through the pickup routes. While this might not necessarily be a bad thing, I'm positive that it should be avoided whenever possible. There are many positives to a back-bolt, the most important of which are neck-through-like upper fret access with bolt-on ease of construction. Hitone
The Jazz Skeleton Concept It was an idea I kept drawing out over and over again. A truly transparent guitar with only minimal/beautiful wood showing. So since I donate a guitar to be auctioned at the Wilflower Festival in Richardson TX each year, I thought this is a good place to test the idea. Body Rim - Flamed Maple with Wenge binding Top, bottom and sides - Lexan Center strip - Mahogany and Flamed Maple Neck - Mahogany Fretboard - rosewood Inlay/Fret Markers - Lexan down the side to allow light to pass through Pickup - DeArmond Style neck pickup Tuners - Wilkinson Tuners vintage style Bridge - Rosewood Bridge Tailpiece - Modified vintage tailpiece with Maple string-through

Metalhead28
The owner of this guitar had jokingly declared the guitar's name "Ginger", so that's what I'm going with. "GINGER" 25.5" scale Maple/Mahogany/Wenge neck thru Mahogany body wings Quilted maple carved top & matching headstock cap Ebony fretboard, 12" radius 24 Stainless Steel medium jumbo frets Curly maple pickup mounting rings Curly maple truss rod cover w/ logo engraving and magnetic attachment Hipshot Hardtail bridge Seymour Duncan "P-Rails" pickup set Graphtech nut Sperzel locking tuners Nitrocellulose lacquer finish / oiled neck. The controls consist of a volume for each pickup, a three way toggle, and 2 microswitches to select HB/P90/Single-coil mode for each pickup. AccidentalChef
Well, if Metalhead's guitar is Ginger, I guess I'll call mine Mary Ann. 25" Scale Maple/Claro Walnut/Padauk neck through Curly maple body wings. Claro walnut top and back, accent layers are Padauk/Maple/Black Veneer/Maple Ebony fretboard Evo gold fretwire Claro walnut pickup rings Claro walnut truss rod cover recessed Schaller roller bridge DiMarzio Air Norton and Air Zone pickups Graphtech nut Sperzel locking tuners. Walnut knobs with claro walnut cap and maple accent layer Claro walnut headstock veneers with maple/walnut accents Claro walnut binding with maple accent Continuous wood control cavity cover. Controls: 3 way switch plus Volume Volume Tone Tone The push/pulls on the volume pots give my system series and a phase switch. The tone push/pulls take care of my coil tapping. With both push/pulls down, the humbuckers are in series. With both up, they're in parallel. When just one of them is up, I get either the inner or outer single coils, depending on which one is up. Build thread: http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.php?showtopic=41317 Thanks to Woodenspoke on this one. Without his knowledge (and his power tools!) I couldn't have done a build like this any time soon.
