darren orr
First build for a friend, nearly done. http://s216.photobucket.com/albums/cc198/D...nt=inwood15.jpg Mahogany back, maple/kwilla top. Neck is from an existing guitar and isnt the most fantastic quality and felt pretty arse to play due to the lacquer. So i refinished that except the fretboard. Inlays were the first I'd ever done, so I'm pretty pleased with that. Finish is danish oil. just set it up to check neck angle etc. It sounds awesome acoustically It still needs : String through ferrules Pickup to be rewound wiring to be sorted output jack body needs final wax Setup. to be played. Edited : to fix crappy linking Edited September 3, 2007 by darren orr

Geo
Dude, that's a really refreshing take on the Tele body. Sorry if I missed it... what's the blonde top wood? I assume maple, but I dunno.
darren orr
Yep. Plain old maple. no figure, just grain. I really like it, the guy its for isnt really into figured flashy woods.
darren orr
http://s216.photobucket.com/albums/cc198/D...ent=pickup3.jpg replacement pickup bobbin. Original pickup was left in sun, all the wax melted out and the bobbin deformed. Damn that summer.......
CrazyManAndy
Very nice! Good choice on the plain maple. CMA

darren orr
Finished! Finished the pickup today, assembled this afternoon. pickup is wound to 9k with a coil tap at 6.5. Sounds awesome! Sustains amazingly, has a nice round tone with lots of low mids. more pics - http://s216.photobucket.com/albums/cc198/DKOrrGuitars/ Edited September 15, 2007 by darren orr

oz tradie
I also like what you've done with it . Although I've got a lot of inner turmoil from my metal demons telling me to stay away!!!!!! I like the twist on an original. Cheers, Stu
marksound
I think it's great. Like an art-deco-ish vibe. Very cool.
Bygde
I normally don't like the tele shape, but that thing was pretty cool! Especially the wood combination, and the pickup bobbin!
darren orr
Yeah, Ive been in a band with a guy who plays teles for 6 years, never really liked them. Then I made this one, and I think theyre pretty cool now. They just need to be made interesting to look at. When i look at it now i think of old school sports cars, Shelby cobra, austin martin etc.
alexoest
Fascinating pickup repair/mod. How did you replace the bobbin? Did you just remove the old top and squeeze the new one in place? Did the pole pieces easily find the holes or did you have to guide them? ...I am considering putting transparent acrylic bobbin tops on some pickups, so any tips and tricks would be nice. http://s216.photobucket.com/albums/cc198/D...ent=pickup3.jpg replacement pickup bobbin. darren orr
Nah, I stripped the entire pickup. Made the new bobbin top, made a pickup winder, wound the pickup to 9k and a coil tap at 6.5k. It was my first pickup so im not the most informative person on the matter. alexoest
OK, thanks. I thought you just replaced the top bobbin. Still it looks really good.
