Blackdog
A have a piece of each for making an all-mahogany carved top solidbody. Which one will make the better guitar, which one will be easier to carve ?? Will appreciate your opinions, thanks...
Geo
Quarter-sawn wood is more stable of course, but that would be more important with the neck I think. Mahogany is very easy to work with. I've used mahogany (can't remember if it was Honduran or African). You shouldn't have trouble carving either one I don't think. erikbojerik
Either one, doesn't matter. Whichever one you like better. QS v FS doesn't mean a hill of beans when it comes to a solid body.
fryovanni
I agree with Erik. If your African Mahogany is Khaya, it can be a bit more fiberous(stringy) than Honduran. Because of that I find Honduran slightly easyer to work. That would probably be most significant on shaping the back of a neck. For the body of a solid body electric it would not be much of an issue. Mattia
What they all said. Honduran is more fun to carve if you're actually using planes to do it, but both work well. If you're using an angle grinder and sanders it's not much of an issue...
