Desopolis
So I built a really pretty piece of mahogony/maple/paduak/maple/mahogony laminate neck: I was at the exotic wood store loosing my mind.. my other neck will have ebony, but wouldnt that look a bit bland? I was going to use Zebra but I dont want to mix it with this "classy" neck.. any advice?
NJD
Bubinga maybe? it's got a reddish tint - might go with the Padauk strip... just a thought!
ToneMonkey
For my Maple:Zebrano:Maple neck, I cut a slice off my neck blank and used it as a fretboard (or would of if I didn't hit some dead wood in the neck ) Might look nice with those laminates
Ben
I vote padauak fretboard with a piece of maple veneer between the board and the neck.
Desopolis
I vote padauak fretboard with a piece of maple veneer between the board and the neck. I thought about that too, but im thinking using the red as a accent to the guitar witch will be mostly black. I like the veneer Idea though.. Ill look into Bubinga.. any other ideas.. NJD
If it's going to be mostly black, why not use ebony but fancy it up with binding, perflin and even try your hand at inlaying?
Xanthus
Well, if it's going to be mostly black, I don't think there's anything wrong with an ebony fretboard. The first thing that jumped into my head when I saw the pics, though, was some maple, a nice light, quilted maple to contrast the pretty dark neck woods. prs man
the ebony is a cool thing and would play vary nice. my thought is birds eye maple fret board with paduak veneer between the neck and birds eye maple fret board.
