Pr3Va1L
How exactly did you get your route that square? With a chisel i guess?
jay5
I've built that myka jig before, but am unhappy with the adjustability of it. That said, I'm going to build another with T-slots, special hold downs from grizzly, and built in steel rules for better accuracy and alignment. I'll make a tut for your thread when I get around to that, duff. Have you seen xlr8's take on the jig? Just as you described.
Maiden69
I'm doing it the way that Setch pointed out. This is the way that Doug describes in his small tutorial for neck installment. Also, since you aldeady have the neck jig made, adaptind a pup template and routing with the neck attacked is not a big deal.
Daniel Sorbera
Because of some things that came up I have not done nearly as much as I would have liked. Currently I'm ready to finish the neck, the grain filler is drying now. For the body I still have to do the back tummy cut and it will be grainfilled/stained/washcoated today. That still leaves me around 4 weeks to finish, 1 week to dry, 4 days to string/setup, and overnight it to the band and it will get to them the day before the concert. Yikes! Here are some pics. (body wood wetted with naptha for shots, the neck has the epoxy grainfiller on it.) pic 2 pic 3 pic 4 pic
Setch
Is the epoxy on the neck clear, or coloured? It's all looking very nice - the carve looks very smooth.
Daniel Sorbera
The epoxy is clear. I'm very happy with the carve, turned out nice and even. I just got done with the tummy carve. I went for a much smaller carve compared to the sinkhole that was on the wenge guitar Now the body is ready for it's grainfill application. Man I LOVE this peice of mahogany pic 2 pic 3 Edited June 12, 2006 by Godin SD
GregP
That is some kickass mahogany. Shame that it's not the front of the guitar. I know you probably need and/or want some flamed and curly maple pieces to showcase for a certain demographic, but I really like the look of the mahogany better than the maple. jay5
What was your method for doing the carve? Pretty sweet!

mikhailgtrski
What clearcoat did you shoot?
Daniel Sorbera
I ended up using behlen nitro. I used the flattner for the neck to make it satin insted of gloss (the front of the headstock is gloss)
GodBlessTexas
Godin, that guitar is simply beautiful. It's not in a body style I like or would want, but I just can't help but marvel at how gorgeous it looks. Wow! GBT
Daniel Sorbera
I figured I'd let it dry another week before putting everything together. So here it is now. pic2 mmm love that clear coat! pic3 Today I'll glue the neck on and put all the hardware on. Tomorrow I'll string it up and do the setup. verhoevenc
Finishing the neck and body seperately on a set neck guitar? Whoa ll does this??? How do you deal with clear in the neck pocket and the part of the neck that goes into the pocket? If you could outline how/why you do this that'd be great. erikbojerik
Is it a bit darker than the tiger eye you were shooting for? Or is it just my screen?
Daniel Sorbera
Yes I did end up staining it darker. The reason I shot the body and neck seperately was so I could spray the neck satin and the body gloss. You can either tape off the neck pocket or clean out the finish after you've sprayed. marksound
Is this the one for that band? Be sure to get a pic after they knock it around and put stickers and crap all over it.
mikhailgtrski
Looks nice! Is it the pic, or did you spray a toner coat after staining it? It seems like the figure is muted just a tad.
Daniel Sorbera
Right now the neck is glueing and the majority of the hardware is on. Is this the one for that band? Be sure to get a pic after they knock it around and put stickers and crap all over it. Edited July 13, 2006 by Godin SD
