marksound
You almost have to include some kind of nod to Oldsmobile.

marksound
What you're talking about is like a heat transfer thing, right? Where it's kinda melted into the plastic? I don't know. What I'd do is (besides not worrying it) is do a decal thing ... or maybe ... use a Dremel and a template and rout it in multilayer plastic. Ooh, yeah. marksound
I think it's like a heat transfer thing.
sepultura999
I am no wood expert but the wood could be Nato if not mahogany. I read somewhere they are very similar in looks and tonewise but something tells me that that source of information is wrong since it's not a popular choice wood. -Jamie
GuitarGuy
Clear pickguard backpainted?
Daniel Sorbera
I am no wood expert but the wood could be Nato if not mahogany. Takamine uses alot of nato in there G series insted of mahogany. It still sounds fine and it looks just like mahogany only it has very unneventful grain patterns. Like no grain pattern at all. Thats why I don't think that peice is nato. Edited September 30, 2005 by Godin SD
ZoSo_Spencer
yay....you have started....ive been waiting for this for ages maybe the logo could be printed into a vinyl at like a sticker place or something... thats what i was thinging of doing....never got around to it.. Nitefly SA
i think you should rout it out then use the liquid inlay type stuff, its like epoxy, but then it would fill everything and still look good

Cadinho
hey idch, well, for the rocket 350 logo you could work it on a cnc machine to route it on your pickguard material. the things is you´d have to get that "Rocket 350" in a cad file to work on cnc. that would work... and for the quality of a cnc job... it´s a pretty reasonable price. cheers... ohh... one more thing, where did you get this Rickenbacker font???? marksound
Don't know why I didn't think of this before ... Go to a place that does engraved signs, like for desk or door nameplates, trophies, etc. I bet you could take your font with you and let them laser etch it. Here's where I Googled it. Googled it. I love that.

TeiscosRock
idch - how did you get a hold of this neck? I very much so want my upcoming project to be a set neck, but It's nearly impossible to find a pre-made set-style neck that I dont have to get custom made for a billion dollars. The only other option would be to make my own (albeit with a pre-slotted fingerboard).

marksound
But still, I wanted to be certain that this won't give any problems. So I decided to cut a piece of maple to insert into the chamber. I'm going to call the insert a "Tone Strip" and patent and trademark it and invent a whole spiel about its effect on tone, etc. Or you could fill it up with brass and call it the Sustain-o-Slug. marksound
Yeah, you're laughing, but don't forget I'm the KING of the metal shim...I was really tempted to install a steel bar in there....but since the pickups won't be riding close enough to it, I decided to save that idea for another project... Seriously, it's looking good. Sorry if I missed it, but what are you going to do for a finish? Solid or trans? Can't wait to hear this one.
