How To Rewire your Double Edge-Equipped Guitar With DiMarzio Pickups

By Kevan J. Geier

Some folks feel that the stock pickups in some production Ibanez models (namely the 2020x and 2027x) aren't really all that great. I've heard from dozens of people asking about installing new pickups, but the wiring seemed too complicated, and the colors of the wires of the stock pickups and their new DiMarzio's didn't match up. It can get quite confusing- one friend of mine tried to tackle it and accidentally wired it up as two single coils. LOL. This diagram should help clear up any confusion, and make the installation of the new DiMarzio's MUCH easier.

Tools required: -#2 Phillips Screwdriver (for removing elec. cavity plate & switch from body)
  -Soldering Iron
  -Solder
-18 ga. Spare Wire (white and black; other colors are optional)
  -Duffel bag of patience

The wiring diagram was specifically made for owners of Ibanez Double Edge-equipped guitars but if you find an alternate use for it, that's great!

Models the diagram relates directly to: -Ibanez RG-2020x -Ibanez RG-2027x -Ibanez RG-7-CST and Ibanez RG-6-CST

Some pickups will NOT have the braided shield wire. That's OK; this diagram still works.

I can't stress this enough: THIS WILL ***NOT*** AFFECT THE FUNCTION OF YOUR PIEZOS. Although, you may need to adjust your piezo output to match the new magnetic pickups. Here's a link to help you with matching your new magnetic pickups to the piezos: Click Here

The 5-way switch will now select your pickups under Ibanez's "J-Custom Special" pattern for two humbuckers. Most players feel this offers the best variety of tone from a H-H setup. I know my RG-7-CST sounds wonderful, and I think you'll enjoy it too!
